Carrier HK42FZ011 (United Technologies)
My A/C wasn't working, (The Blower wasn't coming on), so I jumped online and found a repair service. The guy came out to take a look at the system. He looked at the air handler for a few minutes and came down and told me the controller was bad. So he contacted his office and came back in and gave me an estimate, $668 for the new controller installed + $40 for the visit. That isn't a crap load of money but still I could find better ways to spend it, I would rather put it toward my Summer Vacation. He said he would have to go pick up the part and it would be tomorrow before he could come back. So I told him I would call when I was ready since it wasn't going to be fixed right then and there anyways. He left and I went and grabbed the model number for the Contoller, HK42FZ011, and jumped on Ebay. I found one used, It was $100 bucks, so I bought it.
I get the used controller and put it in, and it does the same thing. You hear the relay click but no dice. So jump back on line and find this bulletin:

After reading that, I cracked the case open on the original to see what I could find. Right away i see that the Relay solder has melted away and there was no contact. So I drove up to Radio shack and bought an $8 Soldering Iron Kit, went home soldered the relay contact back to the board. Put it back in the Unit and has been working fine since.
So the $700 bucks I would have spent I ended up spending under $200, but if I would have had more knowledge, it would have cost my $8. So this is the reason why I posted this on my site, maybe it will help someone only spend $8 instead of $700. I am going to try and send back the one I bought on Ebay, if not, I will repair it and sell it on ebay.

-- Update -- I got another email today thanking me for putting this out there. It made me think I should come back and mention it has been two years and everything is still working fine (Broke in May 2006).
-- Update July 28, 2008 -- Thanks to Martin Ridgeway for sending me some pictures of before re-soldering the relay. I wasn't planning on putting this on my website when I "fixed" mine, so I didn't take any pictures. Here are the pictures Martin sent me:
